Grief, Gratitude, and the Space In Between
Life is hard. It’s full of challenges, heartbreaks, and frustrations. But it’s also full of glimmering moments, unexpected joys, and reasons to smile. This duality is what makes life whole. The hardships don’t erase the beauty, and the beauty doesn’t cancel out the pain—they exist together, shaping us, teaching us, and helping us grow.
When we resist the realities of life, focusing only on what’s wrong or unfair, we miss out on its fullness. It’s easy to see challenges as defining moments—failed relationships, the loss of a loved one, financial stress, or daily frustrations. But if we look closer, we’ll see that these moments are balanced by joys we might overlook—a breakup may leave us shattered, but a friend’s enduring loyalty reminds us of love’s many forms. The loss of a loved one brings immense grief, but the new life of a pet or child can renew hope. A surprise expense may drain our bank account, yet somehow, there’s always enough to keep us afloat.
This doesn’t mean pretending hardships don’t hurt—they do. It means acknowledging that life is both hard and beautiful, and finding peace in that truth. What would happen if you allowed yourself to hold both the challenges and the glimmers together? Life will never be perfectly smooth or completely chaotic and when we learn to see life for what it is, we stop fighting it and start embracing it. Even on the hardest days, there’s always something to smile about—a kind word, a moment of laughter, or the way the sun shines through the trees. These glimmers remind us that life isn’t just one thing—it’s everything, all at once.
What’s one challenge you’re facing right now? And what’s one glimmer of joy or gratitude you can find today?
